Flickering Lights is a science fiction serial that ran from February 15, 2016 to July 11, 2016 on Penprints.
In a world of darkness, the people of Murk survive by the light of the darkfish and wonder what happened to the light. Marcus is just your average information formatter at an oxygenation research facility on Murk, and he makes sure to stay out of trouble. Marcus doesn’t mess with terrorists. He doesn’t act erratically. And he most certainly doesn’t associate with beacons, people whose skin glows, but even they are dimmer than his darkfish.
Then Marcus comes across two convicts on parole who shine brighter than anyone he’s ever seen, but a terrorist attack leaves one dead and the other wounded. When the surviving beacon appears on his doorstep, Marcus is pulled into a perilous journey that could end his life or change it. Or both.
My awesome cousin, Joshua Valentine, made it look all fabulous for me.
Characters and stuff:
Marcus top left; Hermes top right; Penelope bottom.
These things here on the right are darkfish. They glow in the dark. Don’t ask me why they are called darkfish when they give off light because I really don’t know.
These things here on the left are nocturals. They’re glasses or goggles (depending on your preference) that help you see in the dark.

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father Who is in heaven.
Here are all ten parts of Flickering Lights.
